Sažetak
Tourist guide can be defined as a person who guides visitors in the language of their choice and interprets the cultural and natural heritage in the area that has a qualification in the form of a card or licence, recognized by the appropriate authorities. In the Republic of Croatia there is no continuous training for tourist guides as well as a form of continuing education to help them to systematically advance, develop and acquire new knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of services rendered in tourism. Once they pass the seminar for tourist guides which are carried out pursuant to the provision of services in tourism, NN 68/07, 88/10, 30/14, 89/14, 152/14 purified text of 30.12.2014, tour guides are no longer obliged to follow certain changes in the field of tourism, culture, setting new monument marking the new significant historical reminiscence in the area, nor participate in any training course that would upgrade their skills or adopt new knowledge on running specialized groups of tourists, raise awareness of travel and tourism, sustainable tourism issues and principles of how to improve their quality management and efficiency, improving foreign languages, as well as other knowledge about management skills of tourist groups. The aim of this paper is to investigate the number of registered tourist guides in Croatia by counties, how many of them after passing the seminar participated in workshops or training, and whether there is their interest in acquiring new knowledge through the Academy for tourist guides in which by help of scientists and experts from various fields and disciplines, organized courses, training, seminars and conferences, and professional study tours they would acquire additional knowledge in order to inform and connect with guides of other countries, gaining new ideas, habits and cultural exchange. This form of knowledge acquisition would be based on the principles of lifelong learning. The methodology used in this research is based on a quantitative method through the distribution of questionnaires to all the tourist guides, the method of analysis, synthesis, description and historical method.
