Sound and rhythm in dialectal poetry of Ivan Goran Kovačić

Sažetak
The title “Ognji i rože” (Flames and Roses) expresses the very essence of the Kajkavian poetry of Ivan Goran Kovačić. These two words announce a poetry full of pain and joy. They are symbols of a poet who has answered life's challenge with the fire of beauty and rebellion. The reasons for the poet's return to his dialect, to the speech of his country and childhood, are felt not only in the meaning but also in the rhythm and sound of the aforementioned title. A linguistic stylistic analysis of acoustic and rhythmical structures in “Drvarska popevka” (A Woodman's Poem) and “Beli most” (The White Bridge) proves that the main tone and poetical impression could have been achieved only by the phonology, morphology, syntax and the lexicon of Kajkavian Lukovdol, the poet's native village.
