Sažetak

Managing a project can be a challenging, complex and daunting process because many projects fail - they are not finished on time, go over budget, or do not have the desired end result. Education of future project managers through online education should provide the necessary knowledge and skills on how to manage a project. There are various project management software programs, but not all of them are suitable for use in online education. The choice of project management software used in online education should not be based on personal preferences of lecturers. The aim of this paper is to offer a comparative analysis of project management software tools used in teaching project management. Based on PMI standard, a methodology used in this study, project management software used in the online environment should support five process groups and ten corresponding knowledge areas. Then, additional criteria, like official support, community, availability of learning materials and online access to software were also added into the evaluation. A sample of 5 project management tools was selected, based on being subject to other related studies and/or popularity in the project management community. After conducting a comparative analysis, the results of this study are presented in a tabular format. The result of this study can be used by higher education organizations and institutions to assess the strengths and weaknesses of these tools, before making a decision which tool will be used in their online education in project management.
