Sažetak

The article comprises main causes of the Kosovo crisis and the recent conflict between the NATO and Serbia. The author underlines confusions stemming from simplifications, which disregard the complexity of the political scene of the region. The Kosovo crisis is presented as one of the last phases in the disintegration of former Yugoslavia and a consequence of the process of political transition. The article analyses historical framework of Albanian-Serbian relations and their importance for contemporary events, as well as the positions of chief actors in the region. It also designates possibilities of solving the crisis. Finally, the author concludes that the consequences of the NATO intervention were intensified by a hard election defeat of a decade-long ruling party and the victory of the democratic opposition in parliamentary and presidential elections in Croatia in early 2000. Everything has changed in the region.
