Abstract

The process of Turkish approach to the EU is at its turning point. European Council's decision to set the date for the beginning of the accession talks brought at the EU Summit in December 2004 presents an event of a high importance for Turkey, EU as well as the whole world. Finally Turkey got clear European perspective. According to that it is very important to summary Turkish experience on its way toward EU, to question current position of the state and the reasons behind it, and to analyze the implications of eventual positive or negative continuation of this course in the future. Intensification and continuation, as well as slowing or stopping of the Turkish approach to the EU could have long term consequences for Turkey, EU as well as the entire world order.
