Final resolution of Kosovo status: processes and perspectives

Sažetak
Process of the final resolution of Kosovo status enters its closing phase. Internationally mediated negotiations as well as direct ones between Kosovo Albanians and Serbian leaders are completed without finding a compromise solution, which led to so called internationally imposed status prepared and proposed by UN Special Envoy for Kosovo, Marti Ahtisaari. This plan takes into consideration different factors which are relevant far defining the final status: historical situation, relations between Albanians and Serbs, factual situation and other. Final status decision, eight years after the establishment of international administration, is now under the authority of the Security Council under Chapter VII of the Charter of United Nations, which delegates it with the power of taking adequate decisions and measures for keeping and maintaining international peace and security. The main goal of this article is to analyze important questions related to the final! status. At the beginning it shows a short history of Kosovo from the Versailles peace conference to the breakup of Yugoslavia, with one chapter specially focused on the process of breakup, the role of international community as well as the Kosovo status. Further on, author analyses war imposed on Kosovo, conference at Rambouillete, international intervention as well as the establishment of the international administration. At the end, author analysis negotiation process, Marti Ahtisaari' s plan and the role of the UN Security Council.
