Sažetak
The aim of this paper was to determine the link between twelve items of the Olympic programme (competition training, scholarships, etc.) and the success of Croatian athletes at the XXXI Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. The research encompassed the athletes competing in 20 Summer Olympic Games sports (17 individual and 3 teams sports) whose activities and performance were funded during the four-year Olympic cycle (from 2013 to 2016) for the Rio Olympics. The results of the simple regression analysis showed a statistically significant connection between the achieved success and ten items of the Olympic programme. The remaining two showed no statistically significant connection. Five variables pointed to a linear type of connection, four to quadratic, and one to a logarithmic relationship. Based on the connection type and the value of the determination coefficient (R2), recommendations to the Croatian Olympic Committee (COO) for achieving greater successes at the Olympic Games are given. The variables showing the linear type of connection should be significantly increased, those showing the logarithmic type of connection should be moderately increased, and the items showing the quadratic type of connection should be increased only up to a certain level.
