Libertas International University students’ perceptions of online teaching methods in 2020/2021

Sažetak

The aim of this study was to research whether – and how – adapted teaching methods, external circumstances and dissatisfaction factors influenced students’ perceptions of online teaching at Libertas International University. The sample consisted of 300 students of Libertas University, who answered an online questionnaire in January and February of 2021. This paper examines the following: (i) the extent to which teachers adapted their teaching methods to the online environment (lectures, exercises, teaching materials, student participation, examination, evaluation and assessment methods); (ii) effects of adapted online teaching methods on students’ success (measured by class attendance, active participation, motivation, concentration levels during online classes, grade point average, and student effort); (iii) factors of student satisfaction in online classes. The results show that the students successfully adapted to the new online medium, with minimal stress, owing to the teachers' efforts to ensure highest-quality teaching in the online environment. As the main disadvantages of online classes, students referred to the lack of social contact with their colleagues, lack of student-teacher interaction, lack of concentration and motivation, compared to classroom learning. In the end, recommendations for further research are provided. This paper contributes to the overall debate on online teaching at the tertiary level and offers insights into both the external and internal factors of student satisfaction with online teaching.
