Sažetak

Reality television has become a social phenomenon. It is the subject of many discussions and analyses because it represents one of the most watched television contents, while at the same time causing conflicting opinions: some watch it passionately and find it an entertaining escape from reality, while others shy away from the very thought of consuming such content. Reality shows can contain inappropriate content for participants and viewers of all ages, but at the same time can also be educational. Along with very popular reality shows like Candid Camera and Big Brother, less known are those shows that once served as social experiments for scientific research, such as observing people's behaviour in closed communities. Although they are at the same time shocking to most people, such reality shows also contain educational elements. The authors of this paper use the survey method to research whether reality programmes, in addition to being entertaining, can also be educational. It also analyses why people watch such content and identify themselves with it.
