Sažetak

The emergence of the coronavirus epidemic changed the manner the media reported to their readers all over the world, including in Croatia. Any news was presented as the main news, with such content most prominently being featured on Internet portals. The intensive dissemination of information has led to a very large number of sensationalist headlines, but also to disinformation in the form of so-called fake news. The purpose of the paper was to determine how the media covered the epidemic in Croatia, to offer a theoretical framework concerning this topic, to examine the perception and awareness of readers about the phenomenon of disinformation with an additional analysis of the content of the most popular media portals.
