Sažetak

During the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, teachers prepared teaching units that were followed by students via the Internet or television channels. In this paper, attention will be focused on the educational role of public service broadcasting in the modern world in relation to the opportunities provided by new technologies. At the same time, it will examine the challenges faced by teachers who prepared and conducted classes in new circumstances. The method of semi-structured interview with four classroom teachers who prepared or conducted classes through public service broadcasting will provide insight into possible methodological differences in the preparation and conducting of classes with pupils when they take place in-person and through media, and also presented will be the communication challenges that such a method of work puts before teachers. The aim of the paper is to consider the role of public service broadcasting in education and the communication and methodological challenges that arise in the mediated teaching process, to identify the advantages and disadvantages of such teaching and its impact on the implementation of educational outcomes in the Curriculum. The experience of distance learning and teaching, which in the second wave of the pandemic for lower-grade students replaced, according to recommendations, the usual model of teaching in school, leaves the impression that direct communication with students is the best form of teaching in the educational process. Nevertheless, the question arises for the future: can mediated teaching be prepared and conducted with the same quality as classroom teaching, or is direct face-to-face communication necessary for quality education? This will be considered because the right of children to a basic education that is of high quality and accessible should be protected in all circumstances, including the post-pandemic world.
