Abstract

The paper deals with the historic importance of the Beničanci oil field as an essential production asset in INA from putting it into production until now and stresses its significance for Croatia. From production start-up in 1972 until 2023 more than 20 million m3 of oil was produced from the Beničanci oil field. In its most productive years, from 1980-1985 more than a million m3/year of oil was produced, and Beničanci has made history as the only Croatian field achieving such record high annual production. The Beničanci oil and gas field holds many production records, which will be hard to beat. However, as natural production decline is inevitable in any field, increase in water cut and cessation of flowing production resulted in production decrease. Therefore, in 1985, in order to extend the life of the field, a secondary recovery method – waterflooding was introduced with the aim to improve recovery efficiency. Current rate of production from the Beničanci field is 16.790 m3/year of oil. | 97 In addition, the authors also mentioned other producing fields which once comprised the Beničanci Production Area, namely: Števkovica, Crnac, BokšićKlokočevci, Kučanci-Kapelna, Obod, Obod-Lacići, Bokšić, Sječe, Dravica and the Bizovac geothermal field.
