Sažetak
This paper is understood as a contribution to the empirical research of teaching, which is lacking in Croatia, explained historically and thematically, with an emphasis on Religious Education. Religious Education mediates the religious knowledge necessary for authoritative dealing with religious issues, students' own religious orientation and coexistence with those who believe differently or do not have religious beliefs. This article investigates which models of mediation of religious knowledge are represented in the teaching of Catholic Religious Education in the Croatian sample. The data were obtained using a qualitative methodology based on the observation and analysis of classes, which can be used to understand the intentions of teachers about the religious participation of students and the intended effects of religious socialization. The interpretation of data valorizes the meaning of teaching practice for questioning and possible revision of theoretical models. The results also show the importance and role of teachers’ subjective theories in the mediation of religious knowledge, which may differ from the current directions of educational reforms, teaching curriculum and teacher training.
