Sažetak
According to Plato, it is possible to establish a spiritual analogy between the soul and the polis, with the purpose of creating a model for an ideal living environment in a political community. Therefore, Plato highlights the importance of understanding the nature of the soul in relation to politics. Through the presence of the soul as the principle of life and the meeting place of virtues and the mind, man finds core values that he transfers to institutions and political life as a place of his residence. Unlike a self-organizing entity, man organizes his life and, in that process, expresses a practical attitude towards himself, the community, and the whole. By anticipating the intellectual experience of the highest moral values, the harmonious relationship of mental forces, and the ideal social environment, the state-making nature of man is realized, led by reason as the fundamental ability of the soul. Polis thus becomes the most natural living environment in which each person builds their personality depending on virtue-based motivation. The problematic relationship between the soul and the polis can be best observed in relation to the problematic relationship between philosophy and politics, the immutable and the relative, the soul and the body. The research aims to review the psychological and political arguments that (co)shape the idea of the best politeia, as well as their mutual relationship. The emphasis of the research is on the dialogue in Republic, in which Plato closely connects the nature of the soul and the nature of the polis, along with other dialogues that refer to topic-related arguments.
