Sažetak
In this paper, the New Testament event in which Jesus meets and gathers his first disciples will be explored through the analysis of linguistic features. It is an event that is described in all four canonical gospels. The aim of this paper is to show the similarities and differences between gospels according to lexical and syntactical determinants. All texts (Mt 4,18–22; Mk 1,16–20; Lk 5,1–11; Jn1,35–42) were analysed in Croatian translation of the New Testament by B. Duda and J. Fućak due to its widest cultural and liturgical usage. The lexical complexity measures will determine the lexical diversity and lexical density of each text, and they will be compared with the already established measures of the whole gospels. At the syntactic level, words will be analysed as syntactic units, word combinations and sentences. Finally, by analysing the themes represented in the presentation of this event, the gospels will be compared line by line, and it will be determined how the content and semantic level of the text was influenced by the diversity of language choices. Linguistic, content and meaning peculiarities will point to a unique feature of the writing style of a particular gospel.
