The Protected Region of the Settlement of Kotor: The Analysis of the Existing Situation and the Proposal of Possible Revitalisation

Sažetak
The theme Revitalisation of the protected region of the settlement of Kotor was the subject of research in the production of a diploma work at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Rijeka, within the Renovation of Architectural Heritage course (mentor MSc. Olga Magaš eng. arch.) In this paper only one part of the theme’s work is presented. The paper is divided into two parts. In the first part an analysis is made of the situation, whilst in the second part the suggestion of the possible revitalisation of the village is proposed and guidelines are given that should be adhered to. The paper deals with the analysis of the historical semiurban unit of the settlement of Kotor which has the status of a cultural asset, recognised and listed in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia in 1975. It also provides an overview of the worthy archaeological and natural values of the immediate surrounding area of the Kotor hill and the structures within the protected area of the settlement of Kotor are presented as well as the situation on the ground and through a review of all the available material gathered during the investigation of the archive material. As a basis for making a record of the existing situation one architectural record of the settlement from 1986 was used which the author of this work transferred into a digital vector system. The floor plans of every structure were plotted and all data of the current situation on the ground was adequately processed. For the making of a new status as a basis a cadastre vector was used. Written, graphic and cartographic sources were processed for the investigation and analysis of the protected semiurban unit of the settlement of Kotor as well as its environs. On the basis of the collected data as well as a detailed field visit a recording of the existing situation of all the structures at a scale of 1:200 was made. For each individual building an identification card was also made on which the following elements were processed: the position in the settlement, the basic data about the structure, a description of the typology of the building, assessment of conservation, floor plans of the structure and all accompanying photographic illustrations, historical as well as recent. On the basis of the gathered and processed data an analysis was made of the situation via a series of cartographic representations, on the basis of which a proposal of the revitalisation of the settlement itself is given. All the graphic data and those connected with the cadastre were digitally processed and stored in a database that is easily upgradeable and expandable and so in this way the simple production of an analysis of the data is possible as well as its comparison and the production of cartographic representations and addendums.
