Sažetak

The paper presents the results of empirical research on how stressful certain situations in teaching are for chemistry teachers in primary and secondary schools. The following situations are listed: difficult class, impolite behaviour of students, excessive workload, responsibility for students and their success, concluding grades, large classes, maintaining class discipline, poor working conditions, inability to work individually with students and the inability to introduce changes and innovations in teaching. The research was conducted on 134 respondents in 2023, and the results were compared with a similar survey of 141 respondents in 2010. The research found that teachers considered most of these situations to be stressful and that, compared to the similar survey of 2010, the level of stress had increased. Out of the aforementioned situations, chemistry teachers reported that an excessive workload, the impolite behaviour of students, concluding grades and responsibility for pupils and their success were the biggest source of stress. Two-thirds of respondents stated that these sources were extremely stressful.
