Abstract

The pedagogical points of view, by which Makarenko was acknowledged in the history of pedagogics, were previously made known by the Croatian teacher Milka Pogačić. They could be at his disposal at the time of his attending Teachers' Institute at Poltava. The point in question is: (1) that opposing the Pedagogical Olympus Makarenko points out that it is a lifeless and not very definite pedagogics which does not take into account that each person educated is a unique pedagogical phenomenon; it was Milka Pogačić who wrote down before him about the dominant pedagogics: "Ah, what's the use of wisdom of theory with its lifeless rules directed to universality when each child is a world of its own!" (2) Makarenko's concepts of pedagogical risk and pedagogical investment are well-known. M. Pogačić does it and writes about it in Russian in 1911. She trusts a thief with money and by entrusting him with it she acquires a cooperator instead of an offender. (3) Makarenko is well-known for his humanistic approach to each child and so is M. Pogačić. (4) Makarenko used to point out that in human society there should not be any waste. Even before Makarenko Milka Pogačić points out: "Life is never ruined in the way that there is not a single branch left which can blossom and bear fruit." There is a great possibility that Makarenko had knowledge of the work of M. Pogačić and that it influenced his pedagogical views.
