Sažetak

Respecting a patient’s autonomy is one of the fundamental bioethical principles in healthcare. In the Republic of Croatia, respect for autonomy is enshrined in the Law on Patients’ Rights and in the ethical codes of all healthcare professions. Although bioethics has moved away from principalism in everyday clinical practice over time, bioethical principles still serve as valid guidelines for decision-making. This article aims to analyse the regulations on respect for autonomy within the ethical codes of health professions in the Republic of Croatia. Ten such codes were analysed to determine similarities and differences relating to patients’ rights to choose and make decisions.
