Sažetak

The 1951 publication “Guide to Pula, the Brioni Islands, and the Surrounding
Area” is a treasured document for understanding the history of Pula in the years
following its annexation to Yugoslavia. Written in the era of first phases of Yugoslav
socialist rule, the document provides insight into the city’s initial postwar urban
development. The guide is intended as a tourist publication for visitors to Pula,
offering a historical panorama, information on city services, its infrastructure,
cultural life, industry, and the role Pula played in the national liberation struggle and
postwar reconstruction. Its importance lies in the abundance of details about the
city’s daily life, its institutions, and resources. In addition to its valuable content, this
document contributes to historiography by opening the discussion about the history
of Pula in the first decade of the Yugoslav regime (1947-1957). Its publication in
Italian facilitates data access for researchers of a broad scientific landscape and
promot further interdisciplinary studies. The use of this source allows for a profound
examination of urban and cultural changes in Pula, indispensable for understanding
this transitional period marked by the creation of a new cultural, ethnic, and political
reality in the city after the Second World War.
