Sažetak

The paper examines Qohelet's epistemology and demonstrates that Qohelet restored Jewish wisdom to its original empirical foundations, enabling the authentic development of wisdom through constructive regression. The first part of the paper examines the empirical features of Qohelet’s epistemology. It is observed that Qohelet follows an empirical methodology and establishes the limits of sapiential knowledge, and in accordance with these limits, rejects an overly optimistic theological epistemology, which draws knowledge from the dogmatized sapiential tradition, and affirms personal experience as an up-to-date source of wisdom. The second part of the paper examines Qohelet's elementary and atypical theological knowledge, which is often overlooked in presentations of his empirical epistemol-ogy. It is revealed that Qohelet's theological knowledge is based on Genesis 1–4 and plays a decisive epistemological role, theologically supporting Qohelet's skepticism and empiricism, and confirming empirical epistemology as an adequate sapiential epistemology. The third part of the paper examines Qohelet's epistemology as part of a larger methodological maneuver by which Qohelet convincingly corrects wisdom and it derives theological lessons for contemporary theological discussions on the harmonization of the theological tradition and the signs of the times.
