FRIENDSHIP WITHIN THE ENLIGHTENMENT: ON THE CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN GIULIO BAJAMONTI AND ALBERTO FORTIS

Sažetak
The paper is based on the latest edition of letters by Giulio Bajamonti, a medical doctor, composer and polymath from Split (Ivana Tomić Ferić, HAZU – HMD, Zagreb, 2024), which offers for the first time the transcription and translation of a rich correspondence from several domestic and foreign archives. The research will consider only the letters and concepts exchanged between Giulio Bajamonti and the Italian naturalist Alberto Fortis, with the aim of shedding new light on their relationship, and the roles they played in each-otherʼs lives and works, and of confirming the thesis on their long-lasting friendship. The investigation focuses on the interpretation of the lettersʼ content within the context of Italian and Dalmatian Enlightenment and Neoclassicism, with regard of the topics they were concerned with, the problems they shared, and the very differing environments from which their letters were dispatched.
