Sažetak
The term cultural appropriation in postmodern theory is understood as a normative practice that shapes origin and identity, while simultaneously imagining and inventing tradition. Cultural policy particularly focuses on identifying and categorizing Andrić’s artistic, literary, cultural, political, and ideological heritage, whose canonization runs parallel to its incorporation into specific identity frameworks. The question To whom does Andrić belong? thus becomes a matter of cultural self-definition. The study explores how models of appropriating Andrić’s heritage are formed, what their similarities and differences are, and why the need for appropriation arises in an era skeptical of essentialist understanding of identity. Semiotics, as a value-neutral analytical tool, enables the examination of material and immaterial signs, including Andrićgrad, memorial houses, birth and work houses, museums, monuments, and documents, which simultaneously affirm belonging and imply non-belonging to specific cultural frameworks.
