Sažetak

Zagreb Cathedral Treasury is one of the most important cultural institutions that laid the foundation for many significant institutions in Zagreb and throughout Croatia. Established at the end of the 11th century with the funding of the Archdiocese of Zagreb, it represents a significant event in both ecclesiastical and political history. Bearing witness to the importance of the Archdiocese of Zagreb, the Treasury is a source for understanding the development of Croatian identity. Among its most valuable items is the Charter of Felician, which contains the first recorded mention of the city of Zagreb. The Treasury includes collections of exceptional historical and artistic value. These include liturgical books that formed the foundation of Zagreb’s religious tradition, music collections that have borne witness to a rich heritage of sacred music, and a wealth of textiles. Particularly noteworthy are the cloak of King Ladislaus I of Hungary, a symbol of religious and political authority, and the oldest preserved flag and sceptre of a Ban of Croatia, reflecting the tradition of Croatian statehood and autonomy.
The organization of the Treasury as a church museum was started by Cardinal Juraj Haulik, the first Archbishop of Zagreb. His actions marked a turning point in the preservation of the cultural and historical heritage of the Archdiocese of Zagreb. His successors, along with historians such as Dr Antun Ivandija and treasurer Sister Lina, have continued the work of researching and evaluating the contents of the Treasury.
Beyond its local importance, Zagreb Cathedral Treasury also has international recognition. Its participation in world exhibitions from the 19th century to the present day has further emphasized the role of Croatian cultural heritage in the European and global contexts. The Treasury’s collections testify to the continuity of religious, cultural and political tradition, functioning not only as a guardian of historical artefacts, but also as a symbol of national identity and cultural resilience. Through its collections and international reputation, the Treasury connects Croatian history with European cultural tradition, confirming its role as a key element in understanding the history and identity of the city of Zagreb, the Archdiocese of Zagreb and the entire country of Croatia.
