Abstract

This paper explores everyday narrative practices about (traumatic) loss in the Banija region, stemming from historical conflict and violence, a natural disaster (the 2020 earthquake), and long-term political, economic, and social deprivation. These narrations form a layered texture where the intimate, political, and historical intertwine. Through attentive, collaborative listening to collected material—with a focus on narrative microstructures—the paper seeks to create a space for that which is suppressed, silenced, or fractured in language and thus less audible in broader social discourse. It aims to shed light on collective and individual strategies for grappling with loss within complex affective and social landscapes of everyday life.
