Abstract

The translation analysis of culture-specific elements or realia, especially by authors with transcultural or multilingual background, has gained popularity as a topic of various (scientific) researches. The main focus of this article lies on the novel "How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone" by Saša Stanišić, specifically on culture-specific items and possible procedures of their translation. Drawing on selected examples from the novel and their translation into Croatian, this paper analyzes several translation challenges along with the translator’s solutions.
