Sažetak
Today, in the context of postmodern relativism, increasing numbers of people seek meaning, comfort, refuge, support, and a sense of home in »virtual reality« on social networks. All of that affects the understanding of the human person, religiosity, and the meaning of life. Hence the Church is called, in responding to the challenges posed by »digital culture« to use new communication possibilities and tools in order to enrich them with the Gospel. There are many online services through which evangelization on social networks can be carried out, such as the most popular platforms—Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, X (Twitter), and others. Because there are still few scholarly papers in our ecclesial-theological context that explore the Church’s presence and activity in the virtual world, the paper presents data that provide (at least a general) picture of the extent to which (arch)dioceses in Croatia are present in the virtual world. The paper also analyzes the difficulties faced by ecclesial pastoral activity on social networks and suggests possible perspectives. The relevance of this topic within the Catholic Church is evident, especially if we take into account the very rapid development of media and the role that media play in the life of contemporary society and the Church.
