Abstract
The article is based on the presentation The Impact of the Homeland War on the Work of the Elementary School Tar, held at the 17th National Professional Conference on the Homeland War for History Teachers, under the working title Istria in the Homeland War, which was held in Pula from February 25 to 27, 2025.
During the Homeland War, the Elementary School Tar accepted a large number of refugee students, as well as refugees who became employees of the School. Available historical sources were researched: the local newspaper Porečki glasnik, school documentation (School Chronicle and school photographs), and the School's employees at the time were interviewed as well. In order to bring this part of the School's history closer to the students, an exhibition was set up on the occasion of the Night of Museums. The students had the opportunity to find out what it was like at the school during the Homeland War through interviews with the employees at the time.
The goal of this project and exhibition was to make students aware that our school played an important role in accepting refugees and that the war also affected areas where there was no war.
