Sažetak

Natural Sciences as a subject is introduced and taught interactively, through discovery
and research, field teaching, extracurricular teaching, staying in nature, professional excursions,
school in nature, through museums, exhibitions, etc. and introduces us to the
world of the future. This paper presents the chronology of the introduction of Natural
History, from the earliest time in 1879 (achieving the goals of Hungarianization of Međimurje),
the former Teachers’ School in Čakovec in 1919 to today’s Natural Sciences
(2019). The School Garden and Park of the Faculty of Teacher Education of the Department
in Čakovec have had an educational role from the very beginning, because in the
19th century the nurseries of knowledge were (and are) teachers. Through the regular
course Natural Sciences, in the teacher’s and early and preschool studies of the Faculty of
Teacher Education of the Department in Čakovec, the School Garden and Park were revitalized
several years before by linden trees, individual species of and shrubs, bird houses
and the organization of „classroom“, i.e. „schools“ in nature for natural-sciences and the
educational needs of students. Today’s application of natural elements in the design of
the School Garden and Park of the Čakovec Department of the Faculty of Teacher Education
has been developed and nurtured according to the landscape, culture, tradition
and heritage of the former Teachers’ School in Čakovec since 1919. What they looked
like, what was their function and purpose, today tells the educational trail, a permanent
outdoor exhibition marked with seven informative and educational boards that words
and old photographs, every interested passerby, bring the natural-history of the space in
front of him, with the aim of preserving natural (and historical) heritage of the School
Garden in the role of teacher education in Čakovec.
