Sažetak
This paper considers the climatic and soil conditions for seed potato production and the specifics of crop management, starting from plot selection to potato harvesting and processing. Healthy seed is a decisive factor in the production of both seed and commercial potatoes. The basic prerequisite for the production of quality seed potatoes is the regionalization of production, i.e. the production of seed potatoes in an area where commercial potato production as a source of infection is not widespread. For the production of seed potatoes, the most important thing is to choose areas with the lowest possible population of aphids, which are virus carriers, and with lower air and soil temperatures during tuber formation. Seed potatoes are obtained using a special production technology only from registered seed crops that are officially supervised (controlled) during production by seed potato inspectors under the supervision of the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food. The conditions for certification of seed potatoes, categories and production conditions, the official control procedure, quality requirements and conditions for placing seed potatoes on the market are prescribed by the Ordinance on the placing on the market of seed potatoes (Official Gazette 154/23). Seed potatoes placed on the market must meet the prescribed requirements regarding varietal identity, varietal purity, category, tuber size and health status. Seed potatoes must be processed before being placed on the market.
