Sažetak

Drawing on the results of previous research, this paper attempts to answer the dual
question of how and to what extent plays are present in the memory of contemporary Croatian readers. It does so using the methodology and data derived from the research project Remembering (about) Literature in Everyday Life, which conducted around a thousand semi-structured interviews with volunteers about what they remember from the literary texts they have read. Based on their responses and assuming a representative sample of readers, an assessment is made of the presence of plays and theatrical experiences in the general context of literary titles, and indirectly in the wider population. A list of 49 plays is provided, which were cited 142 times during 1005 interviews, amounting to around 2% of the total sample of all texts chosen by readers as the most memorable. Then, selected examples are used to show how these memories are shaped into spontaneous transmedia collocations, which refers to the linking of texts that have been received (read, viewed, listened to) in more than one medium, such as the adaptation of a literary work for the theater. The analysis uses the terminology of spontaneous transmedia collocation, and all five elements that make it up are identified in examples of certain plays. Thus, quantitative and qualitative analysis potentially contributes to a better understanding of the largest part of the domestic audience, which are non-professional readers.
