Sažetak

Disinfection is one of the fundamental biosecurity measures in livestock production. The goal of disinfection is to prevent, that is, to suppress and eradicate infection. Depending on the time when it is performed in practice, there are three types of disinfection: prophylactic, concurrent and terminal disinfection. Disinfection includes application of mechanical, physical and chemical methods to reduce microbial count. Special attention should be paid to the selection and effectiveness of the disinfectant, including its environmental acceptability. Proper implementation of disinfection procedures is necessary for the protection of animal and human health, profitability of production and preservation of the environment.
