Making Literature from Literature (Intertextual Dialogues of Contemporary Macedonian Poetry with the Topos ‘Saint George Slays the Dragon’)

Sažetak
The starting premises of this research are based on the observation of the continuous intertextual dialogue between Macedonian lyric poetry and the folklore tradition. This dialogue is constitutive of contemporary Macedonian literature. The theoretical premises of the research are based on the mnemonic paradigm of intertextuality, elaborated by Renate Lachman and Dubravka Oraić-Tolić. Their theoretical concepts are interpretively applied to five poems from contemporary Macedonian poetry (Sveti Gjorgji by Petre M. Andreevski, Sveti Gjorgji ja ubiva lamjata by Bogomil Gjuzel, Lamjata na Sveti Gjorgji by Liljana Dirjan, Sveti Gjorgji ja ubiva lamjata by Katica Kulavkova, and Vo srceto ti vleguvam, mi veli Sveti Gjorgjija! by Svetlana Hristova-Jocikj). The interpretative focus is placed on the review of intertextual relations and procedures in the poems and on their mnemonic functions, confirming the basic thesis of intertextuality as the memory of the text, or rather as a basic model through which literature embodies the memory of culture.
