Sažetak
This paper aimed to determine how changes in the methodology for measuring tourism destination competitiveness have affected the Republic of Croatia's overall rank and its standing relative to competitors in the Southern European tourism market. To achieve this purpose, the study used a quantitative analysis of secondary data published by the World Economic Forum. According to the analysis, following the change in the methodology for measuring tourism destination competitiveness, the Republic of Croatia's overall competitiveness rank fell from 27 (TTCI ranking) to 46 (TTDI ranking), indicating that the Republic of Croatia performs relatively worse in tourism under the TTI framework. Compared with its main competitors in the Southern European tourism market, the results indicate that the Republic of Croatia's competitiveness has worsened. This paper highlights the pillars that require prioritization and improvement to strengthen the Republic of Croatia's competitive position in the travel and tourism market, both overall and relative to its main competitors. This research also identifies the elements of greatest value for sustainable tourism development and outlines future actions to address weaknesses in the current tourism policy.
