In this thesis the author describes The International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, which has been adopted 18. May 2007. in Nairobi, Kenya. The Convention will fill a gap in the existing international legal framework, by providing the set of uniform international rules aimed ensuring the prompt and effective removal of wrecks located beyond the territorial sea. The new Convention also includes an optional clause enabling States Parties to apply certain provisions to their territory, including their territorial sea. Particular attention is devoted to reporting and locating wrecks, criteria for determining the hazard posed by wrecks, afterwards rights, obligation and liability to remove hazardous wrecks. Finally, the author concludes that the Convention will certainly contribute a more efficient protection of the sea environment and a higher level of safety at sea.
