Sažetak
The paper describes the new concept of the system and programme of veterinary and sanitary inspection of meat, poultry and eggs
in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia (AF RC), i.e. the implementation of ocial inspection procedures in the facilities of food
industry entities (FIE). The new concept of the AF RC members’ nutrition is dened by the Longterm Development Plan of the Armed
Forces of the Republic of Croatia 2006 – 2015 and it is based on the services of catering rms owned by civil corporations. Pursuant to
the amendments to the regulations on food hygiene of the Republic of Croatia introduced to comply with the regulations of the Euro-
pean Community, the Logistics Department of the AF RC General Sta issued the Direction on the Implementation of Ocial Inspection
Procedures in the Facilities of Food Industry Entities, with the purpose of harmonizing the amended regulations with the national regu-
lations on ocial inspections conducted by Military Veterinary Inspectors of the AF RC. Ocial inspections of meat, poultry and eggs
within the AF RC are conducted in the facilities of the company „Pleter-usluge“ ltd., a food industry entity. They are conducted as audits
during which Military Veterinary Inspectors of the AF RC examine organoleptic properties and documents, inspect the HACCP system
implementation eciency and perform ocial sampling if necessary. Military Veterinary Inspectors of the AF RC conduct audits or vet-
erinary-sanitary inspections of food producers by applying for tenders launched by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia
(MDRC) and if it is found that an audit is needed. In 2009 NATO prescribed the military standard in the eld of food safety - STANAG
2550 (Minimum Standards of Food Safety and Hygiene on Operations). Today, NATO is developping a new militay standard in the eld
of audits of food processors/suppliers called STANAG 2541 (Audit Principles and Risk Assessment of Food Processors and Suppliers As-
sociated with Military Deployment), which is now still being studied. In the future these NATO standards will be the basis of the auditing
procedure of NATO Military Veterinary Inspectors’ ocial inspections of food processors/suppliers in military missions and operations.
