Abstract

Radio in Croatia, and in some other European countries as well,
has not been digitalized yet. There are many reasons for such a gap in
technology while the most common explanation is the emersion of the
internet and radio’s compatibility with that digital platform. This paper
shows the results of a quantitative analysis of web pages of all current
radio concessionaires, Croatian radio and current online radios. The research was done in August, September and November of 2011. The
results show that the majority of radio concessionaires in Croatia use
multimedia possibilities of the internet very little. Conventional contents dominate the websites of radio stations while typical web forms and contents have been neglected. Online contents are strongly tied to their analog land origin and web pages act as multimedia extensions of the good old radio. Should online radio only be an internet version of land radio or should it be something more?
