Abstract

The sample in the research comprised the pupils attending the Primary School “Josip Zorić“ in Dugo Selo (N=205). In order to investigate the relationship between self-image, reading habits and school success the Self-Perception Profile for Children (S. Harter) and a questionnaire on reading habits were used. Pupils who have positive reading habits show a more positive attitude towards reading, have better grades and a better self-image with regard to
behaviour regulation and general self-assessment. The more a pupil likes to read and sees him/herself as a good reader, the more he/she will be satisfied with his/her life. Boys regard themselves more successful than girls in sports activities, whereas girls are less satisfied with their appearance, prefer reading and have more positive attitudes towards reading. Pupils with better grades in PE feel more successful in performing sports activities and are more satisfied with their appearance.
