Abstract

In accordance with educational changes in the world, Croatian
National Curriculum Framework also brings a significant change
of educational paradigm: transition to competence system, student
achievements and learning outcomes. The economically conditioned
change of educational paradigm profoundly changes the contents,
ways and purpose of learning and teaching in schools. Following the
line of these changes the author analyzes dimensions of religious
learning and points out the specific content of religious competence
in school religious education. The method is screening and
analytical. The work consists of three chapters. The first chapter
outlines religious education and new guidelines of education, like
educational standards and competences. In this context the author
answers the question: What is religious education? Religious
Education aims to build a complex religious orientation that
assumes the possession of structured religious knowledge and the
ability of individual internalization of religious tradition. Religious
knowledge in the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic dimension is
the content of the second chapter. The third chapter analyzes the
dimensions of religious competence in school religious education:
educational knowledge in a comprehensive sense – knowledge as
a guide magnitude for a personal interpretation of the world and
as a motivation for lifelong confrontation with religious contents;
competence in expressing one’s own religious abilities and talents;
competence in activating in religious community; building of
religious communication skills and religiously motivated formation
of life. At the end, guidelines for the development of religious
competence in school religious education are outlined.
