Abstract

The first part of this paper deals with Strenna dalmata from the point of view of its programme orientation regarding the period of Illyric national awakening during which the almanac was published. The author takes into consideration the writers who collaborated with the almanac as well as the nature and the meaning of their contribution at the given time in history. In the second part of the paper, in the example of Smrt Marka Kraljevića, a traditional folk poem, the author uses a comprative-contrastive analysis to determine how successfully Nikola Tommaseo succeeded in bringing closer the "Illyric" folk
epic to the Italian reader with his Italian translation from the 1840s and also, to what extent Ivan Franceschi did the same in the same almanac, in relation to his paragon in the philological and other fields.
