Abstract

This paper gives concise information on the life of Pašman’s inhabitin founded on their nourishent. Our interes is based on the way of life of the islanders in the 60s of 19th century when electricity arrived on the island accompanied by all the welfare of the modern life. Such a retrospect was of great interest not only for the curtural bur also linguistic reason. The idea was to list the greatest number of nourishment and describe the characteristic of the islanders’ speech. The list of lexemes in the chapter on the way of preparation is in the glossary. Regarding the speech characteristics we consulted the authors: B. Finka, M. Moguš, M. Hraste, J. Lisac, et al.
The Pašman chakavian belongs to the north-west of the south chakavian dialect reflecting its basic characteristic in the lexic, morphologic and phonologic inventory. From the culturologic view point Pašman, as well as the other Croatian islands, is subjected to dying out of their original tradition. This results in losing a lot of idiomatic expression due to the change in the way of living that lexic as well.
