Abstract

Knowledge has very rapidly increased in a short period of time. New information and communication technologies have influenced all aspects of human life. Working skills have become more and more complex. Pace of life is set to get faster and faster. Society began to develop rapidly. In parallel with the development of society, schools have developed too. Contemporary, postmodern society brings new, very complex challenges into schools whilst a school is expected to cope with successfully. School is no longer an institution expected to primarily educate pupils. School is expected to compensate for all the deficiencies of family and social life. That is not an easy task, both for school as an institution and for the teachers who work there. Thus, there are numerous questions and dilemmas that require scientific and professional opinion, both from all the participants in the educational process and other subjects that are directly or indirectly connected with this problem. In order to solve problem tasks given to pupils, teachers must be educated to a higher level with on-going continuing professional development.
This paper deals with the pedagogical competences of teachers, being only the part of competencies teachers must possess and constantly improve.
