Abstract

It is very well known that exercising and sport
participation bring many benefits for physical and mental
health. Recently, negative effects of exercising are more
investigated, some of them are related to exercise
addiction. The aim of this study was to investigate the
representation of exercise addiction symptoms on the
sample of healthy exercisers of different age and to
determinate the gender differences in manifestation of
those symptoms. The results obtained on the sample of 55
men and 65 women showed that 9% of participants
showed exercise addiction symptoms, 84% belong to risk
group, and 7% of exercises showed no symptoms of this
type of addiction. Gender differences indicated that men
are in conflict with their family and friends due to the
amount of the exercise and increment of training time
more often than women. Persons who take nutrition and
vitamin supplements show significantly higher symptoms
of exercise addiction regardless to gender.
