Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of various mechanical, physical and chemical methods for seed dormancy breaking of Chenopodium album L. Seed was collected at the beginning of October 2012. at the experimental station of the Faculty of Agriculture, Šašinovečki Lug. The study included 13 treatments and non treated control. Average germination of lambsquarters seeds on non treated control was 21%. Most of the treatments achieved good efficiency on the germination of Chenopodium album seeds. Most of the treatments, exept cold stratification and soaking seeds in hot water (70°C ), achieved good efficiency on the germination of Chenopodium album seeds. Methods with the best germination in the study were: cold seed stratification at 4°C for 7 days with addition of 0.2% solution of KNO3 (68.3%), soaking seeds in 77% H2SO4 for 5 minutes (62.7%) and soaking seeds in 2% solution of thiourea for 24 h (58.3%).
