Abstract

The modern school increases the importance of communication and interpersonal skills, and the society needs broadly educated people prepared for new changes which requires different and innovative approaches to learning. This includes the acquisition of new skills and competences. One such competence is education for entrepreneurship, which is a cross-curricular theme and as such exists in the National Curriculum Framework. School cooperatives have had a long-standing commitment to education, and cooperative values have much to offer to current and future education. Through the adoption of cooperative values, children and young people can gain a better understanding of their roles as citizens and thus help build a more just society. In addition, the cooperative values can help schools raise standards in various ways by helping them to engage in a local community and allow for greater participation of parents and external business associates in school life. In primary education student cooperatives are based on learning democracy, moral, civic and social responsibilities of individuals and this is practiced in classrooms and schools. The training of cooperatives adds new impetus in the field of vocational education in preparing young people for their entry to the labour market. Although formal education, as developed in Europe, is not suitable for development of entrepreneurship, it can greatly contribute to a successful resolution of business challenges within the EU.
