Abstract

World of business does not leave space for improvisation, even small mistakes can lead to the enterprise’s bankruptcy. Therefore, decisions that enterprise managers make every day, are very important and can be crucial for the enterprise’s survival. Those managerial challenges, are also challenges for educational system, especially for higher education institutions responsible for education of students for future demanding managerial positions. Learning from its own mistakes is the most expensive method of learning, so it is necessary to create methods of gaining experience in a controlled environment , where consequences are not as painful and expensive as in the real world. Having that in mind, in the world educational practice are often being used business simulations. Through using business simulations it is possible to achieve same level of results, experience and knowledge in much shorter time, with less money and without unwanted consequences. This paper deals with the importance of business simulations as a teaching technique in the higher education of managers and entrepreneurs (including explanation of similarities, differences and overlapping between these two terms). Purpose of this paper is to analyse importance and practical contribution of the business simulations on quality of decisions of future managers and entrepreneurs, by giving overview of theoretical background regarding business simulations and presenting the practical case study (usage of simulation software programmes at Faculty of tourism and hospitality management in Opatija).
