Abstract

The city as a tourist destination is a complex system with its own specific urban and architectural features. Sustainable urban tourism and architecture are unquestionably interdependent. This paper offers an evaluation of the urban hotels in European countries and in Croatia selected according to the established criteria. The analysis of the results suggests that in EU countries, a great deal of effort has been made to raise the level of responsibility of all participants and to apply the principles of sustainable development in tourism architecture. Nevertheless, the established principles have been consistently applied in only a limited number of the analyzed cases.
