Public Buildings in the Formation of the Contemporary Urban Fabric of Split

Abstract

Public buildings built outside the historic city walls in the late 19th and the early 20th century initiated the formation of the contemporary urban fabric of Split. This paper analyzes this process along the street called Veli put, today known as Ulica Domovinskog rata - the main north access to the Split’s historic nucleus. Nowadays these sites are vital elements of the city’s wider urban core that effectively contribute to its recognizable image.
