Abstract

The debate regarding the phenomenon of interculturality has in the last decades not only established itself as one of the most relevant topics of contemporary philosophy, but it has also decisively determined the understanding of the sense of philosophy and its social application in general. The article deliberates on the question, whether philosophical reflection upon interculturality can be founded in an experience of “culture without borders”, or does, however, the intercultural experience touch upon borders, which define the very possibility of intercultural philosophy. The phenomenon of border is discussed in the context of a possible encounter with the Other and the understanding of alterity, insofar as it demonstrates a hermeneutic situation of the crossing of borders.
