Family medicine specialization project: postgraduate course insights

Abstract
Characteristics of Postgraduate Study (PS) in Family Medicine (FM) are described and the names of the paricipated teachers listed. The PS curriculum is delivered during the Project of Specialization in FM, from 2003/04 to 2011/12 academic years. It consisted of three parts: FM part - describing specificities of FM as a scientific and medical discipline, clinical part -encompassing clinical issues specific for FM, and public health subject - relevant to FM through the following modules: Organization, methods and work in FM (part I and II), Quality development in FM, Research in FM, Family care, Care for elderly, Human sexuality, and Alternative and complementary medicine.
Clinical issues were delivered by clinical teachers in the following modules: Care for small children, Women’s health, Care for chronic patients, Care for cancer and palliative patients, and Clinical pharmacology. Public health modules were mostly delivered by public health teachers: Medicine and society, Medical sociology, Medical epidemiology, Medical informatics, Promotion and prevention,
Organization and management of health care systems, Occupational and environmental health, Law and medical ethics. In the observed period,
748 students (28 groups) finished the PS after 18,001 teaching hours. The teachers’ names and teaching hours are presented in the Annex.
